Effective Date: December 4, 2025

1. Purpose of This Policy

Milwaukee Junior Fire Institute (“MKEJFI,” “we,” “us,” “our”) is committed to providing individuals with meaningful choices regarding how their personal data is collected, used, and stored.

This Opt-Out Preferences Policy explains how you may:

  • Opt out of marketing or optional communications
  • Opt out of non-essential cookies and tracking technologies
  • Exercise privacy rights under applicable U.S. and international laws
  • Request limitations on processing where legally permitted

2. Opt-Out of Marketing & Optional Communications

MKEJFI may send administrative, program-related, or informational communications.
We do not send marketing messages unless you have provided consent or signed up voluntarily.

How to Opt Out of Emails or Communications

You may request to stop receiving non-essential communications by:

  • Emailing jhayes@milwaukee.gov
  • Calling 414-788-3270
  • Using “unsubscribe” links (if included in certain emails)

Opting out of optional emails does not affect:

  • Enrollment-related messages
  • Safety notices
  • Scheduling or program updates
  • Emergency communications
  • Other messages required for program participation

3. Opt-Out of Cookies & Tracking Technologies

MKEJFI uses TrustArc to manage cookie consent. This ensures that non-essential cookies do not load without your approval.

Your Options via TrustArc

You may opt out of:

  • Analytics cookies
  • Functional cookies that are not strictly necessary
  • Any future marketing or tracking cookies
  • Third-party cookies used for performance monitoring

How to Opt Out Using TrustArc

At any time, you may adjust cookie settings by:

  • Clicking “Cookie Preferences” in the Website footer
  • Modifying your consent selections
  • Rejecting non-essential cookies upon first visiting the site
  • Clearing browser cookies to re-trigger the consent banner

Strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled because they are required for the Website to function.

4. Opt-Out Rights for EEA/UK Users (GDPR)

If GDPR applies to your data (e.g., if you are an EEA/UK visitor), you may exercise the following rights:

  • Right to object to processing for legitimate interests
  • Right to withdraw consent for any processing based on consent
  • Right to restrict certain processing activities
  • Right to decline non-essential cookies through TrustArc

To exercise your rights, contact jhayes@milwaukee.gov.

Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal.

5. Opt-Out Rights Under U.S. Privacy Laws

While Wisconsin does not currently have a statewide privacy act equivalent to CPRA or VA CDPA, MKEJFI voluntarily honors reasonable opt-out requests, including:

  • Opt-out of optional data collection where feasible
  • Opt-out of analytics tracking (via TrustArc)
  • Opt-out of use of personal data for non-essential purposes
  • Restricting the sharing of personal data with third parties for optional activities

MKEJFI does not sell personal data or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

6. Opt-Out of Data Sharing with Service Providers (Where Applicable)

Certain third-party service providers (e.g., website hosting, email processing) are necessary for MKEJFI operations.

Users may request:

  • Restrictions on optional data sharing
  • Deletion of data stored with certain third-party services (where legally and operationally feasible)

Note: MKEJFI may not be able to restrict sharing necessary for:

  • Program enrollment
  • Site performance
  • Legal obligations
  • Safety-related functions
  • Essential operations

7. Opt-Out From Analytics Tools

If analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) are enabled, you may opt out:

  • Through TrustArc settings (preferred)
  • Via your browser’s “Do Not Track” features
  • By installing browser-based opt-out extensions, if supported

MKEJFI ensures analytics scripts do not load for EU/UK users unless consent is given.

8. Opt-Out for Children & Parents/Guardians

Because minors may interact with the Website or enroll in programs, parents/guardians have special opt-out options.

A parent or legal guardian may request:

  • Classification of a child’s data for restricted processing
  • Deletion of a minor’s personal information (where appropriate)
  • Opt-out of optional data collection related to a child
  • Review of data previously submitted

Requests must be submitted by contacting MKEJFI directly:

Email: jhayes@milwaukee.gov
Phone: 414-788-3270

9. Verification of Requests

To protect user privacy, MKEJFI may require verification before fulfilling opt-out or data-related requests. We may ask for:

  • Email confirmation
  • Additional identifying details (non-sensitive)
  • Parent/guardian verification for minor-related requests

We will never ask for unnecessary sensitive information.

10. Non-Discrimination

MKEJFI will not:

  • Deny services
  • Provide lower-quality services
  • Impose penalties

based on your decision to exercise privacy or opt-out rights.
However, certain website features may be limited if non-essential cookies or functionalities are disabled.
