The fire service is an ever-changing, constantly evolving, dynamic environment. We strive to teach our students the importance of being able to work with different people at events. Firefighters always work in a team format, and the team and its members can change at a moment’s notice. By practicing our skills with multiple groups of different people, we learn how to utilize one another’s strengths and help others work through any weaknesses. JUNIOR FIRE INSTITUTE

Are you a high school student or recent graduate curious about a career in the fire service?

Milwaukee Fire Department Junior Fire Institute (JFI) is looking for students (ages 14 – 20) to join our team. The JFI meets once a month, and participants are taught basic firefighting and first-aid skills. JFI members also have the opportunity to get an inside look at the fire department and decide if it is a career they would like to pursue.

The MFD provides all of the JFI members with equipment, so participants simply need to show up with a good attitude and an open mind. Our experienced firefighters, who all volunteer their time to this initiative, are proud to provide the JFI’s exciting, hands-on learning opportunities.
