JUNIOR FIRE INSTITUTE

Are you a high school student or recent graduate curious about a career in the fire service?

Milwaukee Fire Department Junior Fire Institute (JFI) is looking for students (ages 14 – 20) to join our team. The JFI meets once a month, and participants are taught basic firefighting and first-aid skills. JFI members also have the opportunity to get an inside look at the fire department and decide if it is a career they would like to pursue.

The MFD provides all of the JFI members with equipment, so participants simply need to show up with a good attitude and an open mind. Our experienced firefighters, who all volunteer their time to this initiative, are proud to provide the JFI’s exciting, hands-on learning opportunities.

VOLUNTEER STAFF

JFI members will become familiar with performing firefighting tasks with actual firefighting equipment and participate in various community service functions for the Milwaukee Fire Department. Our volunteer staff is composed of all ranks and includes members of the Milwaukee Fire Department’s special teams, such as Dive Rescue, Hazardous Materials, and Heavy Urban Rescue. You can find current JFI events, pictures, and up-to-date information on their Facebook page.

FIGHT FOR AIR CLIMB

The Junior Fire Institute is proud to take part in the American Lung Association’s “Fight for Air Climb.” Designed for every level, from beginner to expert, this event aims to support those with lung disease.

OUR VALUES

The Junior Fire Institute is guided by six core values: Pride, Respect, Honor, Teamwork, Community, and Volunteer. These six guiding values provide JFI volunteers with a compass to gain the most successful, enlightening experience possible.
